Demonstratives

Demonstratives, as the name suggests, are used to demonstrate objects, things or people. They basically are:

This: Singular, for near objects/things/people (not distant)
Examples:
This ball is black. It is a black ball
This lesson is not difficult. It is an easy lesson
This computer is very good. It is a good computer

 

That: Singular, for distant objects/things/people (not near)
Examples:
That ball is black. It is a black ball
That red car is very beautiful. It is a beautiful red car
That man wants a new computer. He wants a new computer

 

These: Plural, for near objects/things/people (not distant)
Examples:
These balls are black. They are black balls
These emails are very long. They are very long emails
These computers are new. They are new computers

 

Those: Plural, for distant objects/things/people (not near)
Examples:
Those balls are black. They are black balls
Those students are excellent. They are excellent students
Those computers are very expensive. They are expensive computers
